2020 AITR still due on April 15, 2021 but may be amended until May 15, 2021; e-signature now allowed for all returns and attachments; availability of eAFS facility

This Tax Alert is issued to inform all concerned taxpayers to clarify the filing deadline for the calendar year (CY) 2020 Annual Income Tax Return (AITR), the use of electronic signature, and reiteration of the use of eAFS facility in submitting electronically filed AITR and its attachments.

2020 AITR filing deadline

CY 2020 AITR is still due for filing and payment on or before April 15, 2021. However, it may be amended on or before May 15, 2021 without penalty. Any overpayment of taxes paid as a result of amendment may be carried over as tax credit against the same tax type in the succeeding period, or file for refund.

Use of electronic signature

All tax returns, attachments and documents identified above can be signed by the taxpayer or its authorized representative or signatory using an electronic signature. Such electronic signature shall be deemed equivalent to an actual signature or “wet signature” for filing purposes.

Use of eAFS facility

Submission of hard copies of electronically filed AITR and its attachments may be done through the eAFS facility as previously circularized in RMC 49-2020, as amended.
